These is at least some of what I believe, added here when it becomes relevant. Hopefully this should keep me consistent.
- Ad hominem sucks. Win your argument on its merits, or not at all. Paul Graham was right.
- When making an argument about policy, talk about outcomes, not proxies, if it’s at all possible. (Used here).
- “Do your own research.” is a terrible argument. If you make the claim, it’s your responsibility to back it up. More than that though, this argument assumes that I’ll come to the same conclusion as you after research.
